Tree Recycling Dates

  • January 6th, 7th and 14th.

Tree Recycling Drop-off Location

  • Terra Linda Elementary School – 1998 NW 143rd Ave, Portland, OR 97229
  • Trees can be dropped off any day we are collecting trees (January 6th, 7th and 14th) from 9AM to 1PM. We have a suggested donation of $15-$20.

How to Prepare My Tree for Recycling

  • Please remove all ornaments, lights and other decorations. We cannot accept flocked trees.
  • Please have your tree out on the curb by 9AM and VISIBLE from the street when we drive by (not behind a car, by the garage or against the house).
  • Place donation in your red & white envelope or note Zelle or PayPal transaction number on your envelope. We have a suggested donation of $15-$20.
  • The white envelope with red writing must be attached securely and visible from the street as there are others that collect trees in some areas.
  • We recommend re-using the plastic bag to secure the envelope to the tree, it also keeps the paper dry.
  • We will be collecting trees the mornings of January 6th, 7th and 14th.
  • If we haven’t picked up your tree by noon, email trees@troop728.com with your address or put your tree back out on the next collection date.

Payment Options

We have a suggested donation of $15-$20.

  • Cash
  • Checks – Please make payable to “Troop 728”
  • Zelle – You may also pay via Zelle using the Zelle app. Send to “trees@troop728.com“. Please write your transaction number on the envelope.
  • PayPal – Send PayPal donation to “trees@troop728.com” & please send as “Friends & Family” to maximize your donation. Please note your PayPal transaction number on your envelope.
  • At this time we cannot accept payments via any other electronic methods e.g. Venmo, ApplePay, GooglePay, Square, etc.

We will be picking up trees in thea areas below on January 6th, 7th and 14th. Please have your tree out on the curb by 9AM.

FAQ

Why wasn’t my tree picked up?

  • Please have your tree out on the curb (not behind a car, by the garage or against the house) by 9AM and VISIBLE from the street when we drive by.
  • The white envelope with red writing must also be attached and visible from the street as there are others that collect trees in the area.
  • If we haven’t picked up your tree by noon, and you are in our pickup area listed above, please email your address to trees@troop728.com and let us know we missed your tree, or put your tree back out on the next collection date.
  • If you lost your envelope, Please write “TROOP 728” in big bold text on your own envelope, secure it to the tree same fashon as above. Bonus points for using red ink!
  • If you didn’t get an envelope and you are in our pickup area shown above, Please write “TROOP 728” in big bold text on your own envelope, secure it to the tree same fashon as above and email trees@troop728.com with your address and note that you didn’t get an envelope and are requesting a pickup.

What if I am not comfortable putting cash/checks in an envelope outside?

  • No problem! We accept Zelle and PayPal, which is a safe way to pay without placing cash or a check out on the street.
  • Just place your transaction number on the envelope and attach it to the tree so we can see it from the road.

Is my donation tax deductable?

  • YES!  We operate as a 501c3 charitable non-profit organization.

Can I drop off a tree for recycling?

  • YES!  you can drop off your tree from 9AM to 1PM on all collection days at the address listed above.

Will you take my flocked or tinseled tree/wreath/garland?

  • Sorry, we cannot accept any flocked items or items with tinsel as those materials are not recyclable.
